Awards: Albert S Bard Citation, 1989 As part of a multi-million dollar renovation plan, a design was made for two new rectangular greenhouse-type buildings joined at an octagonal fernhouse and three detached octagonal greenhouse pavilions, each framed with tubular steel members. In this unique building structure, the integration of the frame with the architecture allows the exposed steelwork to express its support function with the light airy feeling sought by the architects. |

The tubular steel structural system is composed of members that are in truss and individual configuration. With all connections welded, members are sealed tight, providing hermetically sealed tubes and pipes safe from internal corrosive damage and deterioration. 4,608 coordinates were analyzed three-dimensionally in space for stress and deflection for eight directions of wind in each of the three buildings. Wind force was analyzed in pipe joints with up to eight members intersection at a common point. Project completed in association with Goldreich Engineering, PC.
