THE STAMFORD CONE |
|
|
The main structural elements of the $1 million-plus cone are a series of 16 vertical fins formed in laminated, toughened glass linked at four levels by steel ring beams consisting of fabricated hollow-section ring braced by steel tension cables. Four vertically-braced bays using steel tension cables similar to those for the ring beams provides lateral stability. Braced bays are distributed around the perimeter of the cone. The glass fins serve as the skeleton of the structure while the cables act as its ligaments. |
